Second Semester: Quarter Four...last 9 weeks of the school year!
Mountain Men, Trappers and Pioneers: the first three weeks of the quarter.
The last six weeks of the quarter will be devoted to a survey of the Civil War and its impact on the character of our nation, even to the present day.
The Civil War...
There are several Power Points and study guides that belong to this unit about the Civil War. Students are expected to view the Power Points, complete any worksheets provided and prepare for the final quiz to be given in early June. Short quizzes will be given every few days to make sure students are retaining the information covered in the unit. These items will be posted periodically.
The items below will be changed as the weeks unfold...so be sure to check often to see what has been posted recently!
If you have access at home, there are several documentaries that would be great to view...we will be looking at these in class, too.
"America: The Story of Us", the segment on the Civil War, available with Amazon Prime.

WESTWARD EXPANSION
The Westward Expansion that America experienced in the early to late 1800s, helped to define the American character. Beginning with the early trappers and explorers, and continuing on through the mass migrations of pioneers who traveled to the west coast by covered wagon - this is a unique and exciting part of the story of our country. The Power Point presentations will give a broad overview of the events that helped our nation grow from coast to coast. For each Power Point, there is a study sheet to be completed with the notes (Cornell style) from that PowerPoint. There will not be a formal 'final' exam for this section - just checks on the notes written in students' composition books, as well as completion of the study guides for the Power Points and any documentaries shown in class.

Second Semester: Quarter Three
The U.S. ConstitutionThe second week in March we begin the unit on the Constitution of the U.S. This section will run through the last week of the month, just before spring break. Students will have notes to take from Power Points, as well as work on a packet of materials relating to the Constitution. Students are expected to complete their notes on the Power Points, and the packet pages by March 26th. Packets are available in class, so there is no excuse for not having the materials for the unit!
The Power Points found below are what we are viewing in class, and also are using to take notes. The notes are to be put into their Composition Books. The packet pages will be collected in stages, as we complete the work in class, or for homework. Students are expected to memorize the Preamble to the Constitution. They have been given a copy in class. We will check their memorization task on Friday, 3/14, for Per. 3, and Mon. or Tues., 3/17 & 18 for Per. 2 & 4. There will be three (3) quizzes given to assess the material presented in the PowerPoints, as well as an 'open book' quiz on the materials in the packet. These will be given over the last two weeks before spring break.
